Job Description

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, solution-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join as an Administrative Support Assistant in our main commission office at 6200 Park Ave Des Moines, IA 50321.

IRGC’s mission is to administer the laws and rules for gambling and wagering in Iowa in order to ensure the integrity of licensees and their operations, maintain public confidence in regulated gambling and wagering activities in Iowa, and promote economic development for the citizens of Iowa.

What You'll Do:

  • Answer the in-office phone line for the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission
  • Prepare mail for in-office pickup
  • Respond to license verification requests from other jurisdictions
  • Data entry of simulcast wagering data
  • Weekly, or more frequent if needed, deliver documents to DCI
  • Draft, maintain, and update forms
  • Prepare data summaries, graphs, and charts for use in reports and speaking engagements
  • Prepare or preaudit weekly wire deposits of gaming revenue
  • Prepare or preaudit deposits for licensing fees and fines
  • Prepare or preaudit invoices
  • Verify deposits
  • Receive self-reports from licensees on criminal or disciplinary proceedings

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. One year of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  2. A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to type at least 40 WPM net as demonstrated by the completion of a typing examination.
