About this position

This full-time, 12-month position is a professional staff role within the University Counseling Service (UCS). Based in the UCS primary office, the position provides dedicated psychological services to students in the Tippie College of Business, supporting their mental well-being and academic success. The position includes delivering a range of clinical and consultative services, including but not limited to individual assessment, individual and group counseling, relationship therapy, and educational and outreach programming through UCS. The role also serves as a resource for faculty and staff by offering guidance on student mental health concerns, as well as on related programming and available resources.

Working in close collaboration with the Tippie Thrive program, this position plays an integral role in advancing a holistic, innovative approach to student well-being—integrating clinical services, prevention, and community engagement to create a thriving academic environment.

In addition, the position contributes to the training and development of graduate students in social work, mental health counseling, and psychology by providing supervision and mentorship, as appropriate. These efforts support the enhancement and expansion of mental health services available to students within the Tippie College of Business.

Specific Job Duties & Tasks

• Provide clinical counseling to Tippie College of Business students through individual and group therapy using primarily brief-model interventions.

• Conduct diagnostic assessments and develop treatment plans for emotional, behavioral, and functional concerns using DSM-5 criteria.

• Deliver crisis intervention services for students experiencing mental health urgencies or emergencies.

• Maintain electronic health records with accurate, timely documentation in accordance with agency and ethical standards.

• Provide follow-up case management including coordination of referrals and collaboration with campus and community partners.

• Offer clinical supervision to mental health trainees, including competency planning, skills development, and performance evaluation.

• Develop and deliver outreach programs that promote mental health education for students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.

• Administer clinical service operations within the College of Business, including scheduling, workflow coordination, and adherence to policies.

• Contribute to policy and procedure development to meet emerging needs within the College of Business and University Counseling Service.

• Monitor and apply professional standards including APA or NASW ethical guidelines and evolving best practices in collegiate mental health.

• Prepare reports and analyze service data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for program improvement.

• Participate in committees and campus collaboration representing UCS/Tippie, strengthening partnerships, and supporting student well-being initiatives.

Doctoral degree in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-Accredited program or Master’s degree in social work with clinical focus from a CSWE-Accredited program, or Master’s degree in counseling from a CACREP-Accredited Program. Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor: Licensed as an LISW or LMHC in the State of Iowa by date of hire. Psychologist: Possession of a valid State of Iowa license as a psychologist within 18 months of hire. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Extensive knowledge of evidence and theory based mental health counseling in assessment, crisis, individual, and group with a university/college student population. Extensive ability to assess, manage, and ensure high quality mental health counseling and crisis management. Extensive proficiency in planning and delivering outreach programs and consultation services on a university campus. Working knowledge of providing supervision to trainees. Expert proficiency in the application of communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Extensive proficiency in collaborating and interacting with individuals and groups while valuing the unique contribution of individuals. Working proficiency with office support tools and electronic medical records software (e.g., word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets, electronic health records); preferably Microsoft Office and Titanium EHR. Desired Skills. Experience working with students in a business college or program. Interest and experience in being entrepreneurial in the continual creation of new service systems.
